Erratica
100% Watercolor, impressionistic/realistic portrayal of an erratic landscape

“Erratica”
Wilson Creek Trail, Melba ID

Giant stones, moved by advancing glaciers and left scattered in erratic patterns as the ice receded.

The stones are composed of colorful layers of sedimentary and volcanic rock. They are purple, rust, green, black, tan and terracotta colored. They rest in desert fields that, while normally dry and dusty brown, spring to life during wet seasons in a palette of flora colored in greens, yellows, pinks and purples.

Although the scene seems static and permanent today, these giant stones speak to a long history of tumbled, violent movement across the landscape.
